THE WELLNESS UPDATE
You Clean Your Phone—But What About Your Watchband?

When’s the last time you cleaned your watchband? If you can’t remember, it’s probably been too long!

Researchers found that E. coli was present on 95% of tested watchbands, with cloth, plastic, and rubber bands showing the highest levels of bacteria. Metal watchbands had the fewest germs.

Thankfully, serious effects on your health from a dirty watchband are unlikely, but it is always beneficial to limit your exposure to unnecessary bacteria. It’s recommended to clean your watchband daily—just like your cellphone—but even cleaning it occasionally is better than not at all! The process of getting your watchband clean is quick and simple. Lysol® Disinfecting Spray was found to be highly effective having killed more than 99.99% of the bacteria within 30 seconds.

Use this as your sign! Grab some wet wipes, Lysol®, or even soap and water, and give your watchband a good clean. It’s a quick and easy way to keep things fresh and clean.

NUTRITION CORNER

Trendy Prebiotic Sodas, do they truly deliver?

Fiber is essential for a healthy diet, and prebiotics support gut-friendly bacteria and digestion. While prebiotic sodas provide 2–9 grams of fiber per can, this alone isn’t enough to make a major impact on your gut health. The Cleveland Clinic recommends adults aim to get 25–38 grams of fiber daily, so while these sodas help, they’re not a substitute for whole foods.

One advantage over regular soda is the lower sugar content and in some, the absence of artificial sweeteners. However, experts still suggest treating them as an occasional supplement—handy when traveling or lacking access to healthy foods.
