THE WELLNESS UPDATE
When is the Best Time to Work Out?

While there are some benefits to exercising at specific times of day, for most people aiming to improve overall health, the best time is the time that works best for them! Consistency is often more important for improving your health than the time of day you work out.

Whether you’re an early riser or a night owl, finding a time that aligns with your lifestyle and keeps you motivated is essential. You might ask yourself, what time of day do I feel most energized? What time fits most easily into my schedule? Here’s a quick look at some advantages to both morning and evening workouts:

Morning Workouts

        • Morning exercise can set a positive tone for your day, improve alertness, and support healthy sleep patterns.

        • Many people find it easier to stick with morning routines due to fewer early-day distractions.

        • Exercising in the morning can kickstart your metabolism, leading to increased calorie burn throughout the day.

Afternoon or Evening Workouts

        • Strength and endurance often peak later in the day, which can enhance exercise performance.

        • Afternoon or evening exercise can be a great way to relieve stress and unwind.

        • Some find more flexibility in their schedule later in the day and feel less rushed.

NUTRITION CORNER

Is Coffee a Good Idea When You're Sick?

If you find yourself battling a cold or flu bug this fall or winter, you might wonder if you should skip your morning coffee. While Drinking coffee with a cold or flu isn’t necessarily harmful, it may not be very helpful.

Coffee is a stimulant which is dehydrating due to its caffeine content. When you're sick, staying hydrated is crucial for recovery, as fluids help thin mucus and keep your immune system working efficiently. Additionally, caffeine may interfere with sleep, which is essential for healing.

If you’re craving something warm, consider switching to herbal teas, which can soothe a sore throat and provide hydration without the stimulating effects of caffeine. However, if you still prefer coffee, try to balance it by drinking extra water.
