THE WELLNESS UPDATE
Beat the Afternoon Slump without Caffeine

Many people experience a dip in energy in the afternoon, often turning to caffeine for a quick boost. While it may provide temporary relief, consuming caffeine later in the day can interfere with your sleep at night and lead to further fatigue the next day. Fortunately, there are other effective ways to combat the afternoon slump without relying on that extra cup of joe.

1. Stay Hydrated
Dehydration is a common culprit behind fatigue. Studies show that even mild dehydration can hurt your concentration and energy. Keep a water bottle with you whenever possible and sip consistently throughout the day.

2. Eat a Balanced Lunch
A meal high in refined carbs or sugars can cause blood sugar spikes, followed by a sharp drop in energy. Instead, choose a lunch that includes protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs to avoid a post lunch crash.

3. Take a Movement Break
Research suggests that physical activity, even in short bursts, can boost mood and alertness. A 5-10 minute walk or stretching routine can stimulate circulation and reduce feelings of tiredness.

4. Get Natural Light
Exposure to natural light can help regulate your body’s sleep-wake cycle and enhance alertness. If possible, step outside for a few minutes during your break, or sit near a window to reap the benefits of daylight.

Sometimes small changes can have a big impact on your wellbeing!
