Physical wellness encompasses more than just being physically active.

It involves taking a holistic approach to your overall health and well-being, with a focus on the well-being of your body.

Important characteristics of being Physically Well:

1. Nutrition: Eating a balanced and nutritious diet is essential for physical wellness. This means consuming a variety of foods that provide the necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to function optimally. A well-balanced diet can help maintain a healthy weight, support your immune system, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

2. Sleep: Getting enough quality sleep is crucial for physical wellness. Sleep is when your body repairs and rejuvenates itself.    Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to a variety of health issues, including impaired cognitive function, mood disturbances, and an increased risk of chronic diseases.

3. Hydration: Staying adequately hydrated is essential for maintaining physical wellness. Water is necessary for various bodily functions, including digestion, circulation, and temperature regulation. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, and other health problems.

4. Balance and Coordination: Incorporating activities that improve balance and coordination, such as yoga, tai chi, or balance exercises can enhance physical wellness and reduce the risk of falls and injuries.

What steps to take when your Physical Wellness is in decline:

If you find yourself struggling with your physical wellness, here are some things to try.

1.  If you’re not currently active, find small ways to sneak some extra steps in. Take short walks during the day, park farther away, always choose the stairs, find a walking buddy, schedule it into your day. Most importantly, find something you enjoy.

2.  Choose whole grains whenever possible when it comes to bread, pasta or rice. Add peppers, mushrooms or spinach to your eggs, top whole wheat toast with avocado, slice up apples or bananas to dip in peanut better. Choose lean proteins such as skinless chicken breasts, fish, lean pork, black beans or lentils. Most importantly, don’t overthink it, find foods you enjoy and consider choosing one night a week to food prep!

3.  Establish a consistent sleep schedule, go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.  Give your body time to wind down read a book, practice relaxation exercises or stretching. Create a sleep-friendly environment, keep your bedroom dark, quiet and cool. Make your bed comfortable with the sheets, blankets and pillows you use.  Limit exposure to screens before bed.

The impact on other areas of wellness:

Being physically well isn't only good for your body, it can impact every other aspect of your overall well-being.  This impact isn't always to see. Below are a few examples.

1.  Intellectual wellness: Good physical health is essential for maintaining mental clarity and focus. When you are physically well, you are more likely to be able to concentrate and think clearly, which can enhance your intellectual wellness.

2. Social wellness: Physical wellness can impact your ability to interact with others. If you are physically healthy, you are more likely to be able to participate in social activities and engage in physical activities with others. This can improve your sense of connection and social support.

3.  Emotional wellness: Regular exercise and physical activity can help release endorphins, which are the body's natural feel-good chemicals, and reduce stress and anxiety. When you feel physically healthy and energized, you are more likely to feel emotionally stable and positive.

4.  Financial Wellness: Physical wellness can have a positive impact on financial wellness by reducing healthcare costs, minimizing the risk of medical debt, enhancing work productivity, increasing earning potential, and promoting a longer, healthier life.
