USER TIP OF THE MONTH

Active Minutes

Active minutes are an activity metric calculated by some devices. The term 'active minutes' appears in your Motion Connected account, but some brands have a different name for this metric, such as "Intensity Minutes" in Garmin or "Exercise Minutes" in Apple Health.

Please note, active zone minutes in Fitbit are not the same metric as active minutes. To learn more, [click here].

NUTRITION CORNER

Fabulous Fiber

Unlike most food components, such as fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, fiber isn't digested by the body, it passes through the stomach, small intestine, and colon largely intact before leaving the body. Because of this, fiber plays a crucial role in promoting digestive health, regulating blood sugar levels, supporting heart health, and aiding in weight management.

What has fiber? Plants! Including fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds.  Most Americans do not get enough fiber, but there are so many ways to add fiber to your diet. Take a look at what you should be getting daily and some examples of fiber content in common foods:

Adult Women: 21-25 grams/day

Adult Men: 30-38 grams/day

½ cup black beans = 7.5 grams of fiber
½ cup garbanzo beans = 5.3 grams of fiber
½ cup lentils = 3.7 grams of fiber
1 cup brown/whole grain rice = 5 grams of fiber
1 slice whole wheat bread = 1.9 grams of fiber
1 medium sweet potato = 3.8 grams
1 medium pear = 5.5 grams of fiber
1 cup raw oats = 14.5 grams of fiber
